What is IML molds?

IML gives product manufacturers the ability to have multiple colors, graphic effects and/or textures when the part comes out the mold. In Mold Labeling (IML) is an injection molding process whereby the decoration of the plastic part, using a label,
is produced during the plastic injection process. Simply put, a pre-printed label is inserted via automation into the cavity of an injection mold and plastic is injected over the label. This produces a decorated / “labeled”
plastic part in which the label is permanently fused to the part itself.

FAQ

1. How does the label stick to the piece

It is not an ordinary label because there is no glue on it. It is a label made from the same material as the product.
Due to the temperature and pressure of the molten plastic being injected into the mold, the label is embedded in the wall of the object and thus becomes an integral part of it.

2. Can molds that are not specifically designed for IML be used for IML production?

The answer is "yes, but only after verification". In many cases, it is possible to use the same mold
for IML production with only minor modifications. In other words, it is a possibility to completely change the appearance of the product while continuing to use the same type of shape and the same tooling.

3. Does it require a significant financial investment?

In terms of technical equipment, yes, of course; but these heavy costs are already borne by us. In terms of development and label production, absolutely not.
